GEFJune 2015: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) released a summary of its support for forests that begins with its first project in Guyana in 1991 and culminates in the adoption of the GEF-6 forest strategy in 2014.

The summary includes reports on projects supporting protected areas in Brazil, forest sector development in Belarus and Viet Nam, sustainable forest management (SFM) in the Congo Basin, and trans-boundary forest biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in the Mekong River Basin.

Looking forward, the summary notes that the main focus of the GEF-6 SFM program is an integrated, landscape-level approach. The summary further states that GEF-6 investments are intended to achieve multiple benefits from forests integrating issues such as biodiversity, climate change, efforts to combat land degradation and gender mainstreaming.
