GEF Approves Housing Energy Efficiency Project

3 December 2010: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved a US$9.6 million project to improve energy efficiency of houses in the Russian Federation.

The project is part of a US$722 million five-year programme implemented jointly by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The programme includes: a project on improving energy efficiency in greenhouse gas (GHG)-intensive industries; two projects on introducing energy efficiency standards and labeling on appliances (lighting/other appliances); three projects on buildings; one on enforcement of building codes in new buildings at the regional level; one project on improving energy efficiency in buildings in Northwest Russia; and one on improving the performance of existing municipal buildings.
