GEC Update Highlights Scotland’s Shift to a Green Economy
story highlights

This issue of the Green Economy Coalition's newsletter highlights Scotland's intention to reduce its carbon footprint through a shift to renewable energy generation, and also features an initiative on green labeling to increase product transparency.

December 2012: This month’s issue of the Green Economy Coalition (GEC) Update features an article on green labels, noting that thousands of companies have started the journey towards sustainability.

Citing commonly false claims of sustainability, Ramon Arratia of Interface argues that it is time to transform the “green” industry by focusing on full product transparency (FPT).

Another article, written by Ralph Blaney, Scottish National Heritage, notes that although Scotland faces a number of challenges including the impacts of climate change, it is ready to shift to a green economy and intends to reduce its carbon footprint. Scotland has world-leading climate change legislation, he says, with a target of a 42% cut in emissions by 2020, and currently is on track to meet the target. The reduction is to be derived by a shift to renewable energy generation. [Publication: December Update]
