Meeting from 22-24 April 2009, in Syracuse, Italy, the G8 Environment Ministers reaffirmed commitments to address biodiversity loss.

Furthermore, the “Syracuse Charter” explicitly links safeguarding biodiversity to the fight against global warming, stating that biodiversity and ecosystem services are critical for climate regulation.
