FAO29 January 2015: Winners of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) call for proposals met to exchange experiences and discuss ways to strengthen the role of forest and farm producer organizations. Key issues discussed include: strengthening and linking global and regional networks, reflecting local realities in global policy, ensuring that global decisions are transmitted to local actors, and building capacity for communication and information sharing networks.

Grant winners include the Asian Farmers Association for Rural Development (AFA), the Mesoamerican Alliance of People and Forest (AMPB), the Global Alliance for Community Forestry (GACF), the International Alliance of Tribal People of Tropical Forests (IAITPTF) and the International Family Forestry Alliance (IFFA). The grants are intended to build the capacity of the selected organizations to enhance livelihoods and well-being among forest and farm producers, and ensure sustainable management within agriculture and forest sectors.

The meeting builds upon the discussions held during the meeting ‘Talking About Forests and Family Farms – Growing relationships on fertile ground.’ The meeting was convened by the FFF in collaboration with the IFFA, in order to identify how smallholders and producer organizations can work with governments in order to ensure sustainable livelihoods and promote sustainable management.

The Forest and Farm Facility was developed and is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Bank.
