Food Security Task Force to Support Zero Hunger Challenge

Chairing a meeting of the High-level Task Force on Global Food Security, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said it would be reoriented to focus on the objectives of the Zero Hunger Challenge, which was launched on 22 June 2012.

The Task Force was established in 2008, and aims to guide the UN system's approach to food and nutrition security.

27 June 2012: The High-level Task Force on Global Food Security will be reoriented to focus on the objectives of the Zero Hunger Challenge, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced. Chairing a meeting of the Task Force on 27 June 2012, in New York, US, Ban welcomed the food and nutrition-related outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), at the close of which he launched the Zero Hunger Challenge, on 22 June 2012.

The Task Force was established in 2008, and aims to guide the UN system’s approach to food and nutrition security. The Task Force includes the heads of the UN agencies, funds and programmes, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
