August 2008: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) have announced a workshop on
Harvested Wood Products in the Context of Climate Change, to be held from 9-10
September 2008, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The workshop is based on the premise
that accounting for harvested wood products could encourage silvicultural
measures without losing the value of the forest carbon sink. The workshop will
provide information to policy makers and other stakeholders on the role of wood
products in fighting climate change, including on the core principles and
issues of Harvested Wood Products accounting, in advance of negotiations for
the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. [Workshop Announcement]
