16 December 2009: The “Development and Climate Days” meeting convened from 11-14 December 2009, alongside the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP15) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting provided opportunities to share information on the negotiations and on key development and climate issues.
Over four days, approximately 800 participants heard from over 70 speakers and engaged in extended discussions focusing on the following issues: land, water and forests; justice, ethics and humanitarian issues; planning adaptation; and mitigation, finance and the private sector. Participants included representatives of governments, international organizations, academia, research institutes, business and non-governmental organizations.
A session on arid land ecosystems was organized and chaired bythe International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and included speakers from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Global Mechanism of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). A session on population dynamics and climate change was organized by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and included a representative from the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Small Grants Programme. The high-level, interactive panel session on emerging themes on adaptationcomprised representatives from the UNDP, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank.
