14 February 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) have constructed a temporary forest inside the Palais des Nations building in Geneva, Switzerland, in celebration of the International Year of Forests.

The exhibit includes 70 living trees from 27 different species found in Europe and North America. The trees provide background for an art exhibition celebrating the International Year of Forests. The exhibition reflects on the contribution of forests to economic, environmental and social well-being, including as carbon sinks and as a renewable source of energy.

Following the exhibition, 21 of its trees will be planted in the park of the Palais des Nations. The exhibit will remain open until 25 February. [UNECE Press Release]
