29 November 2012: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a report highlighting its contribution to climate change adaptation and mitigation in forests.

“FAO, Forests and Climate Change: Working with Countries to Mitigate and Adapt to Climate Change through Sustainable Forest Management” focuses on monitoring and assessment, management planning and practices, policy and governance, forest products services and industry and the cross-cutting issue, inter-sectoral cooperation and coordination. It also highlights the provision of technical assistance, the production of manuals and toolkits, the compilation of assessments, the promotion of south-south cooperation, piloting innovative approaches, capacity building, information sharing, support for policy development and project implementation as areas in which FAO is supporting countries.

The report touches on examples related to biodiversity and forests, mainstreaming climate change into forest policies, disaster risk management, integrated landscape approaches, livelihoods and food security, finance markets and economics and forest tenure and governance.
