16 December 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has joined the Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM), a collaborative knowledge-sharing platform on climate change adaptation. The FAO will strengthen the agriculture component of the platform and link its existing agricultural technology database (TECA) to ALM.
The ALM platform invites users to explore adaptation resources or participate in contributing new resources. The project seeks to develop tools and resources to support adaptation practices, integration of risks and adaptation into development policy, development operations and capacity building.
The FAO has joined core partners including the World Bank, the UNFCCC Secretariat, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The US$1 million, three year project is funded by the GEF, with co-financing from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Francophone Institute for Energy and the Environment.
