FAO Governance of Tenure Newsletter Highlights Achievements since Endorsement of Voluntary Guidelines

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the May newsletter on the Voluntary Guidelines on Tenure Governance Initiative, which provides an overview of successes achieved over the past year and planned activities for the near future.

Noting the endorsement of the global guidelines by the Committee on World Food Security in May 2012, the newsletter describes the recognition of the Voluntary Guidelines in declarations of the G8, G20, and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) meetings.

Governance_of_Tenure14 May 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the May newsletter of the ‘Voluntary Guidelines on Tenure Governance Initiative,’ which provides an overview of successes achieved over the past year and planned activities for the near future.

Noting the endorsement of the global guidelines by the Committee on World Food Security in May 2012, the newsletter describes the recognition of the Voluntary Guidelines in declarations of the G8, G20, and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) meetings. It also notes requests for the FAO to include the guidelines as a priority in the FAO Strategic Framework.

The newsletter underscores technical achievements related to linkages with the Africa Land Policy Initiative Framework, as well as regional dissemination activities in Cameroon, Jordan and Rwanda. The newsletter describes upcoming meetings to take stock of work in support of the Voluntary Guidelines, forthcoming workshops in regions over the coming five months, dissemination of the Voluntary Guidelines, and a series of technical papers.
