FAO Email Conference Discusses Challenges and Opportunities of Genomics in Developing Countries

The Biotechnology Forum of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a compilation of messages posted during an email conference on 'Impacts of genomics and other 'omics' for the crop, forestry, livestock, fishery and agro-industry sectors in developing countries,' held 4-24 March 2013.

FAO16 June, 2013: The Biotechnology Forum of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a compilation of messages posted during an email conference on ‘Impacts of genomics and other ‘omics’ for the crop, forestry, livestock, fishery and agro-industry sectors in developing countries,’ held 4-24 March 2013.

Participants agreed that genomics is an emerging field that has significant potential for developing countries if challenges hindering its broader adoption can be overcome. Participants also supported establishing a moderated platform for informal exchange of experiences, data, knowledge and expertise in genomics.
