FAO21 March 2012: In an effort to create a favorable investment climate for private sector involvement in agribusiness, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are collaborating on projects worth $2.2 million to develop improved policies and legal frameworks.

The projects are the first under EBRD’s “Private Sector for Food Security” initiative, which will address key issues, such as improving infrastructure, increasing food safety standards, and building local capacity, to support private sector agribusinesses to achieve their full potential. The activities will be carried out in countries including Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, and the collaboration will combine the banking experience of the EBRD with the FAO’s technical skills and working relationship within member countries.
