FAO15 May 2013: A partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and Slow Food has been established to focus on joint advocacy campaigns strengthening local, regional and global networks and raise awareness of the International Year of Family Farming in 2014.

The Memorandum of Agreement will help to move toward sustainable agriculture systems that safeguard biodiversity and support smallholder farmers and producers. In particular, the organizations will protect traditional food products, including neglected crops. Synergies will be identified for Slow Food to contribute to FAO initiatives like Hunger-Free Africa, the Dimitra Project and the International Education of Rural People Partnership.
