April 2010: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a review of 17 initiatives from the Bioenergy and Food Security Criteria Indicators (BEFSCI) project.
The reviews describe the efforts of initiatives to address the environmental and social impacts of biofuel production at a variety of levels within the supply chain. The initiatives include regulatory frameworks, voluntary standards and certifications and scorecards. The project examines the initiatives independently and compares the extent to which each addresses environmental, socio-economic, governance and food security criteria. The BEFSCI project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. [Project Website]
