FAO27 March 2014: On the occasion of the International Day of Forests, the Government of Guatemala and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) announced a number of agreements to strengthen links between forests and trees and food security, climate change responses, and sustainable development.

The agreements included support for stakeholder engagement in forest policy to be provided by the Guatemala National Institute of Forests (INAB).

An additional agreement was signed with the Alianza Nacional de Organizaciones Forestales Comunitarias (ANOFC) under the framework of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF). The FFF is intended to support community and indigenous peoples organizations engaged in the forest sector, including particular support for the engagement of women’s organizations.

The FFF is managed jointly by FAO, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). [FAO Press Release]
