The related working document outlines agriculture’s contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions and potential impacts of climate change on food security, as well as options, technologies and approaches for mitigation and adaptation. A related information document addresses challenges and opportunities in ensuring seed security in the light of climate change and soaring food prices. It describes the impacts of climate change and food prices on seeds and recommends elements of a strategic approach towards strengthening seed systems, including: better linkages of the formal and informal seed sector; development of local seed enterprises; revitalizing the public seed sector; regional harmonization of seed rules and regulations; and better management of plant genetic resources.
