14 May 2013: The Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA) hosted Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, in a Twitter Chat to discuss the decision adopted at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC on gender. The chat revolved around the following questions: “Why is a gender-sensitive approach part of the climate solution?” and “What are the opportunities to contribute?”

The chat generated 686 tweets with the #SheSparks hashtag by 218 contributors, reaching 1,941,000 accounts and leading to 4,446,000 impressions.

This was the second GGCA Twitter chat aimed at providing an opportunity for people to ask questions, learn about key objectives and entry points, and help inform the framework for implementing the COP 18 gender decision. The decision calls for: climate policy to address needs of men and women equally; gender to be a standing item on the UNFCCC COP agenda; an in-session gender workshop to be held at COP 19; review and report mechanisms to track progress towards a gender balance; and governments to share gender submissions by 2 September 2013.
