25 October 2012: The European Commission has created an app for smartphones and tablets to educate children about the role of water in society. The central character is a frog that teaches two children to conserve water and prevent water pollution.

The app, titled “Zoe Makes a Splash,” also includes interactive elements and animations describing the hydrological cycle and water quality treatment. Teaching notes are also available for the app. The app is one of several initiatives released in advance of the EU’s “Blueprint to Safeguard Europe’s Water Resources,” which is expected to be published in mid-November.
