EuropeAid Consults Public on Post-2015 Development Framework
story highlights

A public consultation on the post-2015 framework for sustainable development is being held by EuropeAid to explore the benefits of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and how the outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), such as SDGs, fit into a post-2015 pathway.

Responses will inform the EU's contribution to the UN process on this issue.

21 August 2012: EuropeAid is holding a public consultation on the topic “Towards a Post-2015 Development Framework,” to inform preparation of the EU’s contribution to the UN process on what will follow the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The consultation seeks input from international organizations, government bodies, academics, civil society, the private sector, foundations and individuals. Responses can be submitted by email and will be accepted until 15 September 2012.

To facilitate the consultation, the European Commission released a document providing a brief history of sustainable development, outlining the objectives of the public consultation, and posing questions to frame public inputs along four dimensions: the MDGs, benefits and limitations; feasibility of a future framework; the potential scope of a future framework; and the potential shape of a future framework.

Questions include: how have the global realities changed in the past 15 years, and how should plans reflect this; what have the MDGs taught us; and how does the concept of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emerged from the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) fit into to a post-2015 pathway?

Responses to the questions will be published in October 2012. [EU Press Release] [Publication: Public Consultation: Towards a Post-2015 Development Framework]
