22 September 2010: The Year of the Bat 2011-2012 was launched during the sixth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS).

EUROBATS was concluded under the auspices of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS). The sixth session of the Meeting of the Parties was held from 20-22 September 2010, in Prague, Czech Republic. During the meeting, the Year of the Bat 2011-2012 was launched. The Year is a joint campaign, led by CMS and EUROBATS, and backed by UNEP, which aims to promote conservation, research and education on the world’s only flying mammals, with a focus on the ecological benefits that bats provide.
