FAO22 January 2014: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has announced a call for proposals under the EU/FAO Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) programme. Eligible countries include those not engaged in Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) with grant amounts up to €100,000.

According to the call for proposals, grants must address one of eight thematic areas: information and knowledge on the FLEGT Action Plan, improved transparency in the forestry sector, independent monitoring, support for community forestry, enhanced timber tracking, improved policy, legal and regulatory frameworks, support for the private sector, and attention to market issues.

The call stresses the importance of linking proposals to national priorities and of involving stakeholders, including through multi-stakeholder approaches. The deadline for applications is 21 April 2014. [FAO Press Release]
