A grant agreement was signed by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the EU and the African Union (AU) for support of the ClimDev Africa programme, a flagship initiative in the Africa-EU Partnership on Climate Change and Development.
27 April 2012: A grant agreement was signed by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the EU and the African Union (AU) in support of the ClimDev Africa programme, a flagship initiative in the Africa-EU Partnership on Climate Change and Development.
The €8 Million grant will support the activities of the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) at UNECA and the Climate Change and Desertification Unit (CCDU) at the AU Commission (AUC) under the ClimDev Africa programme for three years.
Welcoming the grant, AU Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture Rhoda Tumusiime underlined that the Africa-EU Partnership has provided important capacity building assistance to the AU. Gary Quince, Head of the EU Delegation to the AU, highlighted the role of ClimDev in coordinating efforts to provide user-friendly information on climate change in Africa and in creating synergies among environment, climate and security programmes.
The ClimDev Africa programme is a joint initiative of the AUC, UNECA and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The CCDU of the AUC coordinates overarching African policy on climate change and desertification. The ACPC at the UNECA leads programmatic areas including supporting generation and sharing of knowledge and technical cooperation.
