EU, FAO Announce Second Call for Proposals on FLEGT

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has issued a call for proposals for the second tranche of the European Union (EU)-supported programme on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT).

1 March 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has issued a call for proposals for the second tranche of the European Union (EU)-supported programme on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT).

The programme is available for countries that have completed or are in the process of negotiating a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the EU, namely: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Liberia, Republic of Congo, Republic of Laos, Malaysia and Viet Nam.

The purpose of the programme is to support sustainable forest management in VPA countries by investing in governance and capacity building to ensure the legality of forestry operations exporting timber to the EU.

Proposals must address at least one of the country-specific thematic priorities identified in collaboration with VPA countries and cannot exceed $US 135,000 with a minimum beneficiary contribution of 20 per cent of the total amount required to complete the project.
