9 May 2012: The Knowledge Exchange Forum 2012 of the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of the World Bank provided an opportunity for energy sector practitioners to exchange views and experiences on pressing energy challenges.

The Knowledge Exchange Forum 2012 took place in Washington, US, from 7-9 May 2012. Participants included staff from the World Bank’s regional units and Sustainable Energy Department, representatives from ESMAP client countries, ESMAP donors, and energy practitioners from around the world.

The Forum was designed to bring together experts from different sectors and regions, and showcased ESMAP’s commitment to addressing “frontier” issues – emerging challenges of importance to developing countries around the world.

The three-day Forum was organized into four sessions: results-based approaches in the energy sector; energy access for the urban/peri urban poor; renewable energy resource mapping; and planning tools to support low-carbon development. Presentations on these topics included case studies from around the world. The Forum was followed by the two-day ESMAP Consultative Group meeting, the annual meeting of ESMAP’s donors.
