ESCAP partners with Republic of Korea to promote low carbon green growth 9 October 2008: At high-level meetings in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Noeleen Heyzer, discussed with the Republic of Korea’s Prime Minister, Han Seung-soo, a partnership to implement a $200 million fund to support Asian developing countries to pursue a low-carbon development path.

The fund is a key element of the East Asia Climate Partnership, which was launched by the Republic of Korea at the G-8 summit in July 2008, and aims to help nations in the region cope with both economic growth and climate change simultaneously. The plan envisions that the fund would be established over the next five years to be used for formulating carbon reduction policies and implementing pilot projects as well as other necessary programmes.
