Prepared by the UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Issue Management Group (IMG) on Biodiversity and circulated as an information document during the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), held in October 2012, the report gathers a synopsis of existing targets, goals or objectives, established by each UN entity and/or endorsed by the agency's governing body, that contribute to the achievement of the Aichi biodiversity targets.

October 2012: A report prepared by the UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Issue Management Group (IMG) on Biodiversity presents an overview of the contribution of the UN system to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, including the Aichi targets.

The report was circulated as an information document during the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), held in October 2012, in Hyderabad, India. It gathers a synopsis of existing targets, goals or objectives, established by each UN entity and/or endorsed by the agency’s governing body, that contribute to the achievement of the Aichi targets. It also contains information on how the UN entities contribute to the achievement of the Aichi targets within their existing or planned policy-relevant, strategic or programmatic activities and functions, including through capacity building. The report is considered to be a “living document” and IMG members will further discuss how to benefit from the mapping exercise, including for example, sharing responsibilities in support of the implementation of specific targets and enhancing inter-agency cooperation.

The EMG membership consists of the specialized agencies, programmes and organs of the UN, including Secretariats of the multilateral environmental agreements.
