story highlights

The AUC has awarded the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) a three year grant worth €1 million for the dry concentrating solar research project to be conducted in collaboration with l'Institut International d'Ingénierie de l'Eau et l'Environnement (2iE) in Burkina Faso, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, and SIREA-ENERGIE (SIREA) in France.

15 May 2012: Through the framework of the African Union Commission (AUC) Research Grants Open Call for Proposals for 2011, the AUC has awarded the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) a three-year grant worth €1 million for a research project entitled “Development of a Cost-effective, Modular and Dry Concentrating Solar Power for Africa: Design and Test of Components.”

ECREEE received the grant in collaboration with the International Institute for Engineering, Water and Environment/l’Institut International d’Ingénierie de l’Eau et l’Environnement (2iE) in Burkina Faso, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, and SIREA-ENERGIE (SIREA) in France. The project is financed through the Financing Agreement between the European Commission and the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States under the ACP Research for Sustainable Development Program.

ECREE will monitor and disseminate the research outcomes. At a kick off meeting, agreements were reached among the institutions on the budget, deliverables, as well as specific agreements to ensure smooth conduct and follow-up of the activities. [ECREEE Press Release]
