The 23rd Regional Seminar on Fiscal Policy, organized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), featured a segment on green growth that examined new trends for fiscal policy to promote sustainable development.
21 January 2011: The 23rd Regional Seminar on Fiscal Policy, organized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), took place from 18-21 January 2011, in Santiago, Chile. The seminar featured a segment on green growth, examining new trends for fiscal policy to promote sustainable development.
Among the topics addressed were: economic and fiscal instruments for a green economy; the economics of climate change; fiscal instruments; and energy policy for mitigating climate change. Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, presented the Commission’s main proposals, contained in the document, “Time for equality: closing gaps, opening trails,” and outlined the main fiscal challenges facing the region’s governments.
The Seminar was co-sponsored by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with the support of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Chile’s Ministry of Finance.
