20 January 2010: The UN Economic Comission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have signed an agreement to produce a series of studies on the economics of climate change in eight South American countries.
At the same time, ECLAC is also performing similar studies on Central America and the Caribbean. The studies will look at the impact of climate change in South America and its implications for the environment, economy and society in the region, with examples and results reported per country. It will also assess the range and value of national mitigation and adaptation activities, independent of international agreements, and will identify opportunities for regional participation in international policy instruments in support of mitigation and adaptation.
