The European Commission has announced it will support Malawi in reaching water and sanitation-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), focusing in particular on vulnerable populations without access to sanitation and water supply.
29 April 2013: The European Commission has announced it will support Malawi in reaching water and sanitation-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), focusing in particular on vulnerable populations without access to sanitation and water supply.
The initiative will construct 500 water access points and water and sanitation facilities in 50 health care facilities. Another focus will be promoting hygiene in schools and training for local committees on water infrastructure management.
The European Development Fund will provide EUR24 million, and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will provide an additional EUR6 million in co-financing. [EC Press Release]
