EC8 October 2012: The European Commission (EC) has launched a communications campaign to identify and share best practices in climate change action across Europe. The campaign is based on the slogan ‘A world you like. With a climate you like’ and is supported by over 70 partner business associations, universities, NGOs and government agencies.

The campaign is based on a website, soon to be available in all 23 European languages, where participants are able to upload innovative climate actions that contribute to the EU objective of an 80-95% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Actions already highlighted on the website include: a programme in Luxembourg to develop infrastructure for electric vehicles; the conversion at a central rail station of the body heat of commuters into heat for a nearby office buildings in Sweden; the use of solar power in schools in Denmark; and support to local initiatives to improve the efficiency of heating systems in the Czech Republic.

In addition to the website and success stories, the campaign will feature a series of events beginning with the launch event held on 8 October 2012, at London City Hall, UK. The launch event featured statements and presentations by the EC Commissioner Connie Hedegaard, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Ed Davey and Spanish State Secretary for the Environment Federico Ramos de Armas.
