An Eastern African Dialogue on Biotechnology Policy-making, Trade and Sustainable Development was organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the African Technology Policy Studies Network.

An Eastern African Dialogue on Biotechnology Policy-making, Trade and Sustainable Development was organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the African Technology Policy Studies Network.

The meeting was held from 15-17 February 2006, in Jinja, Uganda, and was co-hosted by the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development. With the aim of supporting the formulation of coherent, informed and inclusive policies on trade, biotechnology and sustainable development at the national, regional and multilateral levels, the dialogue aimed to facilitate the exchange of views among stakeholders, identify commonalities and differences in countries’ and stakeholders’ priorities and approaches, support the understanding of East African concerns in global debates, and strengthen the capacity to integrate the policy issues at the interface of trade, biotechnology and sustainability.
