DESA Releases Six Additional Rio+20 Issue Briefs

The recently released issues briefs include: Issues Brief 10, on regional, national and local level governance for sustainable development; Issues Brief 11, on water; Issues Brief 12, on science and technology for sustainable development; Issues Brief 13, on sustainable, low-carbon transport in emerging and developing economies; Issues Brief 14, on population dynamics and sustainable development; and Issues Brief 15, on migration and sustainable development.

RIO+20June 2012: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) released six issue briefs ahead of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), as part of its series “Rio 2012 Issues Briefs.” The briefs provide background and analysis with the aim of guiding UN member States’ consideration of issues related to Rio+20. The recently released issues briefs include: Issues Brief 10, on regional, national and local level governance for sustainable development; Issues Brief 11, on water; Issues Brief 12, on science and technology for sustainable development; Issues Brief 13, on sustainable, low-carbon transport in emerging and developing economies; Issues Brief 14, on population dynamics and sustainable development; and Issues Brief 15, on migration and sustainable development.

Previous issues of the DESA briefs addressed: an intergovernmental body for sustainable development (November 2011); trade and the green economy (March 2011); peer review mechanisms, as part of strengthening the institutional framework for sustainable development (IFSD) (July 2011); oceans (December 2011); sustainable cities (December 2011); current ideas on sustainable development goals and indicators (December 2011); green jobs and social inclusion (December 2011); reducing disaster risk and building resilience (December 2011); and food security and sustainable agriculture (December 2011).
