The May 2011 issue of "DESA News" elaborates on each of the five themes of CSD 19, noting that it will address reducing the harm of pollution and waste, and other “crucial issues for a greener and healthier planet,” in preparation for the UNCSD.

May 2011: The May 2011 issue of the newsletter of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) highlights the 19th Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 19), which is taking place from 2-13 May 2011, in New York, US, and the Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC IV), which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 9-13 May 2011.

This issue of “DESA News” elaborates on each of the five themes of CSD 19, noting that the CSD will address reducing the harm of pollution and waste and other “crucial issues for a greener and healthier planet,” in preparation for the UNCSD.

On LDC IV, the newsletter notes that one purpose of the Conference is to adopt new measures and strategies for the sustainable development of LDCs into the next decade. High-level side events during LDC IV will include one titled “Macroeconomic Policies for LDCs: From Economic Recovery to Sustainable Development,” organized by DESA. The newsletter also highlights the Interactive Civil Society Hearing that took place on 1 April 2011 in preparation for LDC IV. [Publication: DESA News, Vol. 15, No. 5]
