April 2011: The April issue of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) newsletter, DESA News, includes an article titled “Progress made in understanding a green economy,” reflecting on the debate during the second session of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom II) of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

The article credits reports prepared by the UN system – the Secretary-General’s report, the synthesis report, the Green Economy Report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Expert Panel Report on the transition to a green economy – with helping to “propel the debate forward.” According to DESA News, “significant progress” was made in the understanding of a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.
