The Joint Committee of the European Economy Area adopted a decision on European Economic Area-wide historical aviation emissions, which serves as the basis to calculate the EFTA-wide total quantity of allowances to be allocated for the aviation sector.

1 July 2011: The Joint Committee of the European Economy Area, composed of ambassadors of European Free Trade Area (EFTA) States and representatives from the European Commission and EU Member States, has adopted a decision on European Economic Area-wide historical aviation emissions.

The decision, which was taken on 1 July 2011, serves as the basis to calculate the EFTA-wide total quantity of allowances to be allocated for the aviation sector. EU-wide historical aviation emissions was set by the European Commission, on 7 March 2011, at 219,476,343 tons of carbon dioxide (for the EU 27). [EU Press Release] [The Decision]
