ctcn10 October 2014: At its fourth meeting, the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) Advisory Board expressed its full support for a Least-Developed Country (LDC) request incubator programme to recognize the specific needs of LDCs and to assist them in taking full advantage of the CTCN’s resources. Board members also discussed increasing collaboration between CTCN and financial institutions, determined that the Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and CTCN will finalize the bodies’ joint 2014 report, and heard a statement from the presidency of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC.

At the meeting, which was held 8-10 October 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Advisory Board heard the CTCN budget and annual operating plan. The presentation indicated that CTCN had received enough funding to deliver on its mandate, with initial donor contributions of over US$32 million, but was planning to seek additional funding for the future.

The meeting also highlighted recent developments in CTCN’s work. It noted that the Climate Technology Network (CTN) now has 20 member organizations, which will contribute to the technical assistance and capacity building services CTCN provides. More than 20 countries have requested and are now recipients of those services. During the meeting, CTCN announced that it will now accept requests from countries in all six official UN languages.

The meeting was the first co-chaired by Chair, Fred Onduri of Uganda, and Vice-Chair, Matthew Kennedy of Ireland. New non-governmental organization (NGO) representatives from the environmental NGO (ENGO), business and industry (BINGO), and research and independent NGO (RINGO) communities were present at the meeting. The meeting noted that the names of new government representatives will need to be submitted by UNFCCC COP 20 for those slots that have terms expiring at the end of 2014.
