CPF Meeting Stresses SDG Links to Existing Targets

The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) has released the report of its meeting held 5 February 2014 focusing on the consideration of forests by the Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Overall, the meeting reiterated the importance of developing forest-related targets within the SDGs that are clearly linked to existing goals and targets.

5 February 2014: The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) has released the report of its meeting held 5 February 2015 focusing on the consideration of forests by the Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, the meeting reiterated the importance of developing forest-related targets within the SDGs that are clearly linked to existing goals and targets.

In addition to presenting perspectives on forests in the SDGs, the meeting discussed the proposed learning initiative led by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and considered inter-sessional activities on the review of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) and the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF). The meeting also heard reports with regard to work on forests and food security and the International Day of Forests, as well as future program planning among partners.

The meeting agreed to establish a new working group on policy learning and revise and finalize a summary document on forests and the SDGs ahead of the OWG Co-chairs stocktaking. [Publication: Collaborative Partnership on Forests Meeting Report]
