7 July 2010: The UN University (UNU) hosted a lecture by Patricia Espinosa, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the Chair of the upcoming 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP16), on 5 July 2010. She discussed Mexico’s preparations for COP 16, which will convene in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of 2010.

Espinosa stated that, as COP 16’s host country, Mexico is determined to push for substantive agreements from all parties. She stressed the need for inclusive dialogue, especially with least developed countries (LDCs), island States, and the private sector, as a key component for reaching a binding agreement in Cancun.
