Congo Basin Forest Partnership Announces a New Facilitator

The CBFP aims to promote the conservation and sustainable management of the Congo Basin forest through enhanced communications and collaboration, in line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC) strategic plan, the “Plan de Convergence.”

18 December 2012: The Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) has appointed a new facilitator, Matthew Cassetta, who will take over the position from his current post as the cultural affairs officer at the US Mission to the European Union. The facilitator will assist the members of the informal association, which represent over 60 government agency, private sector, NGO and academic partners.

The CBFP aims to promote the conservation and sustainable management of the Congo Basin forest through enhanced communications and collaboration, in line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC) strategic plan, the “Plan de Convergence.” The CBFP was launched as a Type II partnership at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD).

The United States will assume the role of facilitator, a position for which partner governments voluntarily lead on a two-year rotating basis, in May 2012. [US Department of State Press Release][CBFP website]
