The GECHS conference will synthesize the results of 10 years of research on the human security theme and gather researchers, policy makers and stakeholders from different fields to discuss interactions among various processes of change and their implications for human security.

The conference will also serve as a forum for engaging young researchers and discussing future research agendas. The GECHS project was established in 1999 as a core project of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), which is a joint scientific programme of the International Council for Science, the International Social Science Council and the UN University (UNU). Key themes that have been addressed by GECHS project members include: climate change vulnerability and adaptation; water governance; rural livelihoods and food security; conflict and cooperation in transboundary resource management; and interactions between global environmental change and globalization.
