Commonwealth Reports on Progress on CHOGM’s Mandate

The Commonwealth Secretariat has released an update on progress in implementing mandates given by leaders at the 2009 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), including on climate change.

14 December 2010: The Commonwealth Secretariat has released an update on progress in implementing the tasks identified by leaders at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, in 2009, including on climate change.

In the update, the Commonwealth Secretariat reports that the parameters of the Secretary-General’s Good Offices for the Environment role have been defined, and that a conference will be held in the UK in January 2011 to assist vulnerable States to improve their access to climate change finance. Work on climate change and trade policy in small island developing States (SIDS) and other vulnerable economies has also been developed. In addition, support has been provided to parliamentarians to strengthen their capacity to develop and scrutinize climate change policy frameworks. [Commonwealth Press Release] [The Update]
