8 December 2010: The Commonwealth Secretariat has launched a new study, titled “Human Rights in the Commonwealth: A Status Report 2010,” which examines the collective efforts of Commonwealth member countries towards upholding and protecting human rights.

The report surveys the state of human rights, as measured by each country’s formal engagement with international standards and norms. It provides information on the main human rights institution in each country, and highlights that climate change and its impact on human rights, especially for those in developing countries, form a new area that has been given attention in recent years.
