Organized by the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), a meeting held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 20-22 October 2008, resulted in agreement on a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and action plan on migratory birds of prey in Africa and Eurasia, in the framework of the CMS.

The MoU was signed by 28 countries. A new CMS coordinating unit will be established in Abu Dhabi to promote and monitor the new agreement as a UNEP initiative.
