CMS Seeks Offers to Host COP 11 in 2014

The 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) will be held in late 2014.

The CMS Secretariat has solicited offers to host the meeting, which includes covering its costs.

Delegates at COP 10 will consider any formal offers received to host COP 11.

2 November 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) has solicited offers to host the 11th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the Convention (COP 11), in 2014.COP 11 will be held sometime between October and December 2014, by which time the Secretariat expects the Convention to have 120 Parties.

CMS COP meetings have a two-day Scientific Council, followed by a two-day period during which a Standing Committee is held, side meetings convene and the Scientific Council Report is prepared. The following six days are allocated to the COP itself, including a one-day excursion for delegates.

According to the Secretariat, States willing to host the meeting will have to meet the costs of the COP and make a considerable contribution towards its organization. Responsibility for the subsidiary events (Standing Committee, Scientific Council, species agreement, etc.) is subject to negotiation with the Secretariat.
