Ways to reduce emissions from deforestation in developing countries was the focus of a recent workshop held in Rome.

The workshop, which took place from 30 August to 1 September 2006, was hosted by the Italian government and UN Food and Agriculture Organization. Deforestation is responsible for more than one-fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions, and has recently been the subject of increasing interest and discussion by parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
