20 October 2013: The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development have released the results of the 2013 Bonn International Cooking Energy Forum, concluding it will be challenging, but possible, to bring clean cooking energy to 100 million homes by 2020.

The report, titled ‘Clean and Efficient Cooking Energy for 100 Million Homes,’ offers: highlights from conference speakers; a case study of options for scaling up clean cooking technology in Kenya; a look at understanding cooking behavior; recommendations for how to monitor success; a section on clean cookstoves and climate change; and recommendations on building strong markets for clean cookstoves. These recommendations include: supporting local producers in enhancing product design; fostering distribution to last mile/poorer customers; developing standards and training producers accordingly; offering tailored financial facilities; increasing localized market awareness; and donor facilitation of the sector.

On overcoming current challenges to global and multinational production, Forum participants recommended: making more and better finance available; advocating for favorable market conditions; raising public awareness; enforcing standards and protocols; and providing better country data.

The Forum took place from 26–28 June 2013, in Bonn, Germany, and was attended by 130 participants from government, the private sector and civil society.
