CITES Commends Thai Airport Authorities for Seizing Smuggled Tiger Cub

28 October 2010: The Secretary-General of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has announced that he will award Certificates of Commendation to the Airports of Thailand Public Company and the CITES Wildlife Checkpoint of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department of the Government of Thailand, at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok.

The two agencies are being commended for their role, on 23 August 2010, when their officials discovered a person attempting to smuggle a live tiger cub out of the country. The announcement came during a tiger conservation event that convened on the sidelines of the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
